University of Cincinnati " Bearcat Championship Series"

American Cornhole ran the the second leg of its Campus Champ event for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. This is an event that started during the football season and is ending during the basketball season. Saturday January 19, 2008 we had 16 players competing to win the "Campus Champ" belt. The players either won their way into the contest during the American Cornhole Football Tailgate round robin series or had a special invitation extended to them. One of the three special guest players at the event was Brian Kelly the head coach of the UC Bearcats football team and "Coach of the Year for the Big East". Brian pitched last in the black group and placed fourth in the eight person heat. Pictured is coach Brian Kelly as he nails his second of two points for the round. NICE JOB COACH KELLY AND CONGRATULATIONS ON THE SEASON!

Here is how the event worked. The sweet sixteen competed in a speed challenge at halftime of the UC vs. Pittsburgh basketball game. We had eight players competing on each end of the courts. There was a red group and a black group. Players received six bags, had 20 seconds to work with and six different spots to toss from around the three point line. The player from each group to score the most points with their six pitches in the twenty seconds would be invited to compete for the belt at half time of the UC vs UConn game scheduled for January 23, 2008 at the Shoemaker Center.

It was fast. It was fun. It will come again, to campuses across the country in the coming years.

Here is how the players faired.

BLACK BAGS

Ken Holliday - 6 points (winner and finalist)
Dennis Espich - 4 points
Rally Cat - 4 points
COACH - Brian Kelly - 2 points
Bret Guy - 1 point
John Holliday - 1 point
Bailey Geers - 0 points
Nikkie Taylor - 0 points

RED BAGS

Mike Schaffer, Sr. - 3 points
Justin Lawsen - 3 points
Bill Brash - 3 points
John Ziepfel - 0 points
Tyler Hazelbaker - 0 points
Ken Smallwood - 0 points

Eleven year old Shawn Guy pulls off upset in Red Bags Division to win the opportunity to compete against heavily favored Ken Holliday of the Black Bag Division for the Campus Champ "Bearcat Championship Series" Belt. The finals will take place at halftime of the UC vs. UConn game Wednesday January 23rd. It will be played out on center court at half time for roughly 4 minutes. They will play a "Traditional 21" American Cornhole game format. The player with the highest score when the buzzer sounds or the first player to 21 will win this years title.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!
